3 Ideas to Make a Cognitive Mind Map Session More Productive

Like anything else in life, a cognitive mind map is only as effective as you are prepared to make it, and so the end result that a person is able to derive and achieve from a mind map will be directly determined by the level of input they are prepared to invest in it. Many people struggle to get the maximum amount of benefit from a mind mapping session, and so they feel rather foolish with themselves as they think that either they are stupid, or the mind map is.

The following is a breakdown of some steps to ensure that you really get the best out of your session.

Don’t Be Too Analytical About Presentation

Some people, especially when they are trying to do cognitive mind mapping for the very first time in their lives, will invariably be rather concerned at the fact that their idea map is turning into something of a dog’s breakfast with lines and ideas all over the page. However, therein lies the beauty of idea mapping: you write down your ideas as and when they come to you.

If you are sitting there, paper in front of you, constantly worrying and berating yourself about the poor presentation of the page, then you will end up stressing yourself out and therefore inhibiting the free flow of ideas.

Know What to Do Before You Begin It

Again, this is a novice mistake. Too many people rush into a mind mapping session without the faintest idea as to what it is that they are exactly doing, and so they refresh their minds with a quick glance at the textbook or other source materials. The only problem with that is that they then have to switch their concentration to the reading of the text, rather than actually thinking freely.

Use Different Colors for Your Pens/Pencils

This may seem like a strange bit of advice, but by using different colored pencils and pens you will make it much easier on your eyes, as well as easier to organize and find information on the map much more quickly.
