Business plans can make or break the future of the company or any business event. An effective business plan takes a lot of dedication, scrutiny, analysis and hard work. It is very important to do a good job as the future plans are at stake. Many people in the trade recommend using mind maps to prepare business plans. Mind mapping business plans not only brings in clarity but also increases efficiency and accuracy. Listed below are six features of a good mind mapped business plan.

  • The name of your project becomes the central idea of the mind map. Marketing, Finance, Management, Service and Sales are the secondary ideas which branch out of the primary idea.
  • “Marketing”, being a vast subject, has to be dealt in a very elaborate mind map. Preferably, prepare a different mind map for Marketing.
  • The sub heading “Finance” will deal fiscal issues in detail. Queries related to budget, accounting, profit goals, profit margins, financial projections and other fiscal issues will be answered.
  • The “Management” section has to be split into “Management Team” and “Staff”. Study the management team; spell out their duties and responsibilities. Understand how the background of each manager is going to effect the current situation. Similarly, study the staff also in detail. Understand the needs and the sentiments of the staff. Studying them at a personal level helps understand their needs better and benefits in the long run.
  • Examine how and why your “Service” will be better than the rest. Understand the needs of the client and write down what you think will make them come to you. This will become the motto of your activity. Also examine if the client trusts you as much as you trust them.
  • How reliable is your “Sales” team. Their interaction with the client would be very important for the company.

The above points are the main entities of a business plan and the key features of a mind mapped business plan as well. Presenting all these on a mind map in front of you can spell out your concerns and priorities and will help you frame your future course of action.

I dig it... business planning is no joke. After starting a couple of companies i realize that a good plan is always the better alternative to working extra hard without one!
