The reason mind maps work is an obvious one that you may not realize. People do not think in spoken or written words they think in pictures. Visual images are what people remember most. Therefore if you want to make your presentation or class paper effective you need to add images.

The problem is that most of the images people add to presentations actually detract from them. Instead of explaining the concept the pictures confuse and distract those watching. Idea mapping is an effective means of creating organized images that can actually outline an abstract concept or idea. Therefore any schematic, manual or report can be turned into a series of images that people can actually understand.

It used to be very hard to take advantage of this powerful means of communication. Fortunately anybody can now create an effective idea map using mind map software. That means effective visual imagery can be added to any presentation or class.

Mind Mapping

Explaining a business process or proposed changes to a process is one of the hardest tasks facing any executive or professional. The best way to do this is to simply map it out. If you can show your coworkers a map they will actually understand what you are talking about and what you want to do.

In addition to taking advantage of visual imagery, such maps organize information effectively. Information overload is what makes most presentations ineffective. So much data is presented that nobody can understand it or figure out what is going on. Using an idea map can show everybody where everything fits in and how it works.

Everybody who makes presentations, teaches classes or gives sales talks should be taking advantage of mind mapping. An idea map can be used to explain a wide variety of concepts to groups and audiences. Whether you are trying to tell investors what an annuity is or explain the use of a new piece of software, a map is an invaluable tool. A map is needed because it shows the audience what you are trying to talk about.
